Cove Campground @ Fish Lake for Father’s Day

Well, plans do not always work out how you had them in your head. Sometimes things take control that are out of your control and there is nothing that you can do about it. Months ago, I had booked a campground over this weekend on the Olympic Peninsula, Coho Campground. As it got closer and closer to the day we were supposed to leave, the weather was looking like it was not going to match up. If you have kids, you know that multiple days outdoors and rain do not really equal to fun. The day before, I called an audible.

Alec has been asking me forever to take him fishing. After some research on all the socials, I stumbled upon Cove Campground at Fish Lake. The camp sites are first come, first serve and being Father’s Day weekend, I was worried that it would be full. I placed a call early Friday morning, the day we were supposed to leave and they said come on over as they still had spots open. Since I spent the previous day getting us all packed up, we hit the road by 9:30am. Don’t tell his school, but he played hooky that day as we got going! We only had a 2 hour drive ahead of us.

Day 1 - Upon arriving, we got camp set up and decided to try our luck on the dock with some fishing. We were told to hit the dock first to get going. We rented a boat which was only $30 an hour and Alec had his first boat ride which he loved.

Day 2 - Up early, got in a boat. Was windy, did not catch anything. Had lunch, went to dock, did not catch anything. Played ball and went to the park. Took a boat out one more time, was way too windy. Decided to go to Leavenworth to get groceries for cheeseburgers. Alec played mini golf for the first time and had a blast.

Day 3 - Decided to have breakfast and hit the road. Alec missed mom, so we got packed up and headed home. We made a stop at the Espresso Chalet for coffee and hot cocoa. Alec took a photo with “Harry” from Harry and the Hendersons which was filmed in Gold Bar, Wa. Had no idea!
